Galway International Arts Festival

Earlier this week I visited “Just Art It”, a printmaking facility in the centre of Galway, Ireland. Our visit to Galway has coincided, quite by fortuitous accident, with the beginning of the Galway  International Arts Festival.  During a lovely conversation at Just Art It we were invited to the Private View of “Impressions” an Open Biennale printmaking exhibition.  Last night my wife and I visited a printmaking exhibition of outstanding variety and technical brilliance at the Centre  For The Creative Arts and Media on Monivea Road, Galway.

What does one wear to a printmaking exhibition? On holiday and living out of a suitcase for 11 days my choice was limited but I had the perfect sartorial solution! The Wishbone Ash 2016 UK tour “T” shirt that used my lino-cut of Andy Powell was the answer…

I was very impressed with Impressions (ahem) and whilst there were many artists to commend the work of the following artists particularly touched me; Maeve Coulter, Benita Stoney, Julie Anne Haines, Geraldine O’Reilly, Heidi Reich, Margot McNulty, David O’Knae, Maev Lenaghan, John Busher, Susuie Quinn, Grainne Dowling, David Creane, Ann Gilleece and Johnathan Brennan. I am keen to check my 20:20 Print Exchange boxes on my return home to England to see if I have any prints from the Impressions exhibiting artists….I’m sure I recognised the style of one or two artists.

Massive thanks to Just Art It for bringing this exhibition to my attention…I am so pleased to have seen such a powerful display of printmaking in Ireland.
